-Man, look at how far Damian Priest has come? He got the biggest babyface pop on the show this week and had the Raw audience in the palm of his hand throughout both of his segments. Priest is a confident, believable, and likable babyface on a show that needs one. I don’t think Priest is going to win the world championship by beating Gunther at Survivor Series this year, but the fact that he could and fans would relish another run is a testament to how good his work has been in 2024.
A prized WWE possession
-Speaking of Gunther, that dude knows how to sell. The body language and facial expressions that he deployed while Priest was talking at him were just perfect. They sold the doubt Priest was talking about and helped elevate Priest and the crowd reaction to him. Gunther is a prized WWE possession.
-Even more drama in the Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston storyline this week. Woods has to snap at some point. Look, WWE fans will care deeply about Woods turning if they pull the trigger on it at the right time. They can’t wait too long and I’ve long argued they continue to walk on the edge of that line. This week was more of the same.
-Good to see Dakota Kai back in the fold. They got a nice victory over Pure Fusion Collective, which is a faction that is and has been crumbling since the moment it started. Triple H has to see that there’s nothing there, right?
-Who’s the fifth man??!???!?!?!? Wrestling fans always love a good mystery. Both Bloodline factions searching for a fifth man for their War Games team at Survivor Series is going to generate chatter and intrigue. No doubt about that. This week alone, the Seth Rollins reintroduction into the angle was a nice twist, as was Jimmy Uso potentially recruiting Bron Breakker. All that said, eventually, the story needs to turn back to faction vs. faction and the war that they’re having with one another. You want to give that lots of juice going into to Survivor Series and a fifth man mystery isn’t enough of a story on it’s own.
Blah blah brawl
-Another Bronson Reed and Seth Rollins brawl … blah, blah, blah. It was fine, but this is like the 11th week in a row for a fight between them. To be fair, it gets over, but c’mon, how about a little more depth to this?
-The most interesting part of the Reed/Rollins stuff this week was Reed getting some mic time in the middle of the ring. Not many stars get that opportunity. Something to keep in mind moving forward.
-No surprise at all seeing Priest dust Ludwig Kaiser, but it had to be done. Priest is on track for that Survivor Series title match and needs all the shine he can get. This match worked to feature him strongly. Well done and the crowd ate it up.
Banger
-Bron Breakker vs. Sheamus for the WWE Intercontinental Championship next week? Yes, please. Sheamus rarely has bad matches on Raw. Put that fact with the intense reality of Bron Breakker’s work and you have a tasty recipe here.
-I don’t know how much longer I can take The Wyatt Sicks seriously if Uncle Howdy keeps wearing that mask to the ring. It’s awful. Like, REALLY awful. A tremendously awful piece of costumery. Don’t get me wrong, Wyatt Sicks vs. Final Testament works as a feud. It really does and it’s being featured exactly where it should be on the card — smack dab in the middle of it and near the bottom. That said, this week as Howdy is laughing, I was laughing. The sad part is, it wasn’t a comedy bit, he just looked ridiculous.
-Pretty much a total chaos main event this week between the team of Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill and Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez. Since the match was for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships, I’d have like to have seen a little more focus on those belts and less on the craziness and interference, but the calendar calls for a women’s War Games match, so there ya go. This was a means to that end more than it was anything else.
